Do Deutsch
Do Deutsch is happening again! Thanks to great support from Fabiola Juarez-Coca in the Concurrent Enrollment office, the German Section will welcome 230 high school students–most of whom are enrolled in Concurrent Enrollment–and 9 teachers from 7 Treasure Valley schools on Feb 15. All will gather in the Simplot Ballroom with current BSU students and faculty for a day of using their German language skills.
Korean New Year
The Korean New Year’s Event will begin this year! The Korean Club at Boise State University and the Korean Program have been hosting the Korean Thanksgiving Event until 2022, and now we will celebrate the lunar calendar Korean New Year on February 17th at the Jordan Ballroom from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. This event is open to the public, and we especially welcome Boise State students, faculty members and their families. Authentic Korean foods catered from a local Korean restaurant, Korean Trivia and other fun games are provided.
French Club
French club visit to the Impressionist Exhibit at the Discovery Center Idaho this month (Feb date tbd this week) - room for 10 students total. Visit our Engage site to sign up https://engage.boisestate.edu/organization/french-club for updates.
French club will be participating along with hundreds of schools across the US in the international music competition called Manie Musicale. This March Madness-style concours introduces student voters to 16 Francophone singers and groups from all musical style backgrounds and asks students to predict who will be the big winner or vainqueur ! Black History Gala
The gala will be held in the Student Union Building's Jordan Ballroom on February 17th, from 6pm-9pm, and features dinner, entertainment, and dancing.

World Languages Alumni
Tyler Matheson, Class of 2007 and former Spanish adjunct, successfully completed his Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program in December of 2023. Congratulations, Dr. Matheson!
Adrian Kane
Adrian Kane published his review of Yajaira M. Padilla’s book From Threatening Guerrillas to Forever Illegals: US Central Americans and the Cultural Politics of Non-Belonging. Austin: University of Texas Press, 2022. In her study, Padilla analyzes the ways in which US Central Americans have been imagined in US political discourse, mainstream media, and cultural production from the 1980s to 2020 as well as literary, cinematic, and artistic counternarratives to these problematic portrayals. Kane’s review is available in Transmodernity: Journal of Peripheral Cultural Production of the Luso-Hispanic World.
Amber Hoye
Amber Hoye was invited to participate in the 2024 Virtual Exchange Academy facilitated by the Stevens Initiative at the Aspen Institute. Hoye will participate with 50 applicants from around the world to learn more how virtual exchange can provide the opportunity for every young person to engage in meaningful international experiences across the globe.
Nere Lete and Ziortza Gandarias Beldarrain
World Languages Department professors Ziortza Gandarias and Nere Lete collaborated to teach the Honors course, “Immigration, Migration and Identity.” Professor Gandarias taught a unit about Basque life styles and Oral tradition and Nere Lete taught a unit on Basque language.
This course offers an interdisciplinary lens and experiential learning with the Basque community in Boise and summer travel to the Basque Country and helps prepare students to understand, work, and live in our globalized world.
Ziortza Gandarias Beldarrain
Ziortza Gandarias Beldarrain was a committee member of an international master thesis: “Education of Basque Immigrant Women: Unlocking Potential and Changing Destinies” presented at the University of the Basque Country.
